A Weekend Ride to Nandi Halt Railway Station

Nandi Halt Railway Station

Frozen in time, Nandi halt railway station is a beautiful and picturesque halt station lying between Bangalore and Chikballapur.  Built as a part of the historic Bangalore-Chikballapur light railway, the station building walls and edifices bear testimony to its founder, Sir M. Visvesvaraya. This beautiful yet neglected railway station sits in the midst of fields with a lovely banyan tree dominating the area. Several cool peepul trees add to the serenity and beauty of the place. The railway line was sanctioned in September 1909 as a two-feet, six-inch gauge railway line. The section from Devanahalli to Chikballapur that passes through Nandi

Home is Where the Heart is: Onboard Gandhidham Express

Onboard Gandhidham Express

This trip report is an account of my journey onboard 16506 Bangalore – Gandhidham Express undertaken in January 2015. Being a native of Kachchh, Guj, it was my long cherished dream to attend the Rann Utsav made largely popular by Amitabh’s “Kutch nahi dekha toh kuch nahi dekha” ads for Gujarat tourism. The Rann Utsav is held every year at Dhorodo near the Indo-Pak border and is an aura you can’t afford to miss. With authentic Kutchi cuisine, folk dances and handicrafts on display, a visit to the white desert especially on a moonlit night is sure enough to mesmerize

Little did I knew that I will be given a thunderous welcome by the rain Gods and my dream will be fulfilled by the almighty in such a special manner? Tuesday, 29th April – I was happily working in
